Every year, the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award and RFK Journalism Awards recognize outstanding writing and reporting on issues that reflect Robert Kennedy's concerns, including human rights, social justice, and the power of individual action in the United States and around the world.

The Book and Journalism Awards are the RFK Center's longest-standing programs. The Book Award is recognized as one of the most prestigious awards an author can receive. The Journalism Awards program is the largest of its kind and one of the few in which winners are determined by their peers.

By honoring authors and journalists who cover social justice and human rights, we shine a light on these underreported issues and encourage in-depth reporting and writing that can expose, educate, inspire, and effect positive change.

We are approaching the deadline for nominations for the 2010 Book and Journalism Awards, and we need your help. If you know of an important work released in 2009 that covered a social justice or human rights issue, we want to hear about it.

The deadline for entries is February 1. Submissions are judged by a panel of experienced journalists, authors, and editors. There are awards for student journalists as well as professionals.

Books, newspaper articles, TV news segments, radio series, web articles, photo essays, and editorial cartoons published, printed, or broadcast for the first time in 2009 are eligible.

The Eddie Adams Photojournalism Workshop is an annual four-day event that brings together seasoned professionals and 100 newcomers to photography. Professional staff includes photographers and photo editors from major agencies and publications including Getty Images, AP, National Geographic, Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, among others. Alyssa Adams began the workshop in 1988 with her husband, Pulitzer-prize winning photographer, Eddie Adams. As Eddie Adams said, "I wish I were able to have attended something like this when I was coming up to meet some of my photography heroes. There are people assembled here this weekend that would have otherwise taken five years to meet." The Workshop, now in its 22nd year, is held every Columbus day weekend in Jeffersonville, New York and is sponsored by Nikon, Inc. The Workshop is tuition-free. Students are admitted based on the merit of their portfolio. Please join Alyssa Adams and Nikon representative, Mark Suban who will present work from Workshop 22 and answer any questions about applications for 2010.

Black Team Work Weekend #1

We're up at the farm, getting it ready for Barnstorm XXII. If you truly have nothing to do today, you can watch the live webcam that Brien set up and catch glimpses of exciting raking, mowing and weed-whacking. Only 62 days until EAWXXII!

Emily Schiffer (Barnstorm XXI) is the winner of the 2009 Inge Morath Award!

Congratulations are in order for Emily Schiffer, who was recently named the winner of the 2009 Inge Morath Award.

The prize of $5000, which is awarded by the Inge Morath Foundation and The Magnum Foundation, "is given annually to a female documentary photographer under the age of 30, in memory of the late Magnum photographer Inge Morath."

The other finalist for the award was Jenn Ackerman, who is also a Barnstorm XXI alumna.
